Venus Rising: Finding Mr. Right

Venus LuxHello Lovers,
Recently I’ve been testing the waters of online dating. I admit this is not virgin territory for me. I have been off and on dating sites for the past 2 years. I have met a few people, had some fun dates and many total blunders. Right about now you are wondering why a porn star like me is even on a dating site in the first place.  Well, to be honest, it simply hasn’t been easy for me to find a compatible guy. Surprisingly,  it does not have much to do with my career but more so with finding that perfect blend of maturity,  intellect, life goals, personality, common hobbies, and of course, sex in one hot package. Maybe I’m reaching for the stars, but aren’t we all entitled to our standards?

This is how I see it: I’m young, driven, personable, and successful enough to be taken seriously. Being in the position that I am and having the responsibilities that I have, doesn’t leave time for ‘boys’, drama, and games. I have to be quick to size a potential suitor up in our initial conversation. I’m not saying this to be a diva but it’s difficult trying to make time to meet up. When I spend time with someone I want to make it count. So I’d rather knock out the important questions before the first date and not waste precious time. Besides, with my being in porn, there is not much about me that you can’t Google. I’m usually upfront about the skeletons in my closet and baggage that I’m carrying, so I expect any potential suitors to do the same. Finding a good man is tough! I know a lot of men like to say say all women are crazy, but you guys aren’t so far off the mark sometimes.

But I’m putting myself out there and I’m trying. In the end that’s what it’s all about; finding that spark, making that connection. So I’ll keep searching and share some tales along the way. Follow my journey, ask me questions, and share your stories of transsexual dating with me, too. I’m sure there are a few tricks and tips I can learn from you guys. Oh, and if you have a hot brother….you know where to send him.

XOX,

V.

Venus Rising: In or Out?

Venus LuxHello Lovers!
Hope you are knee deep in chocolate and confection this Easter Sunday morning. Earlier this week, I had the honor of walking the red carpet and attending the 2014 XRCO Awards OHM in Hollywood, Califonia.  The XRCO Awards, like many large industry awards, are mainly dedicated to the straight industry and seldom have categories dedicated to transsexuals. As such, I was delighted to be included in the event because I feel TS stars being visible leads to more inclusion in awards categories and broadens our horizons and opportunities in the Adult Industry in general.

That said, XRCO just celebrated their 30th anniversary, establishing themselves as the 3rd oldest industry award event, but I do have to wonder why haven’t they modernized their event like their forerunners AVN and XBIZ have.  I love attending these events to support my fellow friends, performers and colleagues but most times I am the only transsexual supporter in house. There appears to be a disconnect still prevalent between both of the genres, even after prominent performers have transitioned and crossed over from various niche genres.

Don’t get me wrong; my experiences at these awards were spectacular! The list of models in the straight Industry is so vast that I’m constantly meeting someone fresh on the scene or new to me and I love networking with all of them, people are my passion. Still, with all of the glitz and glamour of cameras, red carpet, and lavish accoutrements that lack at TS centric events, I can’t fight the feeling that we are being segregated to an extent.  Other than my height in heels, because of my appearance, I blend right in. When I get approached by other performers or media who don’t know that I’m TS , I get asked the questions that all of the straight female performers get asked . When I point out I’m TS, I get the looks and whispers and honestly, get sort of dismissed.

So, I guess I’m wondering what you guys think about all of this. Should TS Awards be separate and exclusionary to mainstream? Should Mainstream press and award categories change with the tides and broadening tastes of the Industry? What was once considered fringe is now moving to the forefront, does the Adult Media need to acknowledge the shift? Let me know what you think!

Venus Rising: Express Yourself

Hello Lovers!
Lately all forums are abuzz with the topic of women’s rights. Equal pay, reproductive issues and feminism are grabbing the headlines on a daily basis. I find myself facing nearly all of the same battles facing biological women but with the added struggle to be understood and recognized as a transsexual woman. I often ask myself why most transgender women purely acknowledge themselves as “women” and not as “transgender women”. Why do they find it shameful to admit to being transgendered?

The majority of transgender women I’m familiar with, whether they be acquaintances, friends, or colleagues, admit many of their close friends don’t even know they have transitioned. Most neglect to disclose being transgender when dating. Is there some sort of an indelible Scarlet T they think they will be forced to wear if they are forthcoming? Is it personal insecurity or is it simply a trait they feel they only share on a need to know basis?

To that point, how can we possibly educate others through transgender awareness and fight for transgender rights when few are confident and proud to embrace transgenderism? Although we are a gender and not an orientation, we need to follow in the footsteps of our GLB brothers and sisters and stand up and express who we are. If we do not how can we expect society to follow suit?

So I say talk as much as possible. Share yourself with the people around you. Find a GLBT community center and give some time to an adolescent struggling with sexual identity. Start a group where transgenders can meet and express ideas. There are so many seemingly small things we can all do, but small drops in the bucket become waves of change and that wave of change can become a full movement.

Venus Rising: Here To Stay

Venus LuxHello Lovers!
Spring has definitely sprung and everyone appears to be in high gear, working and building something new. I am definitely in demand more than I’ve ever been in my career. It’s running me ragged but it’s an amazing feeling. Recently a fan questioned me as to whether I thought there was a legitimate rise in demand for transsexual performers in adult film and we’re a permanent fixture or if we are just the flavor of the month.

In the Adult Industry, heterosexual-themed films of all kinds are the most prevalent and readily available to the public. We’ve been here for decades, but over the last few years transsexual performers seem to be rising up in the peripheral of mainstream porn viewers and consumers. Not only is the material more accessible, the TS performers are more widely recognized, interviewed and photographed. New award categories, expos and events have been created with us in mind. We are truly embraced by our peers and fans. This acceptance offers new visibility and creates a wider market full of choices to spice up your life.

In my opinion transsexual pornography has been the fuel for a man’s curiosity about transsexuals. Based on the men that I’ve met throughout my career; fans, hook ups, friends, and dates, it takes only one transsexual experience whether sexual or platonic to spark a man’s curiosity. Of course the initial moment of interest starts with attraction. He may explore his fascination with transsexuals immediately or later in life depending on what obstacles he may overcome. Seldomly do I hear men whose new found interest in transsexuals are expressly derivative from pornography but  I do  feel it’s a gateway to them gaining insight and understanding as to who and what we really are.

Porn serves its purpose broadening the sexual horizon for both men and women all over. If nothing else, through the medium we’ve learned  there are so many varied ways to have sex and explore our boundaries. There is no black and white and nothing is off the table. That spirit has given transsexuals an outlet and the spotlight in Adult Film we enjoy today. Are TS performers going to take over as the Industry as the norm tomorrow? Not likely. But are we here to stay as an indelible part of the Industry and culture? Without a doubt.

V.
